Close to 25,000 Lost Electricity in Queensland and Victoria Following Severe Storms

Approximately 25,000 households in southeastern Queensland woke up experiencing outages on Monday morning after intense storm systems swept through the area, bringing powerful gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Damage

Homeowners observed giant hailstones reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been impacted by significant hail.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair power throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews deployed to manage the widespread outages.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, nearly one thousand residents in Victoria also experienced power outages after the capital city saw its most precipitation in a year and a half.

Rescue organizations responded to nearly 600 calls for help across the region, mainly for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

• Wyndham area - 179 emergency requests

At one point on yesterday, more than 28k power users in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along large portions of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the coast.

Tuesday was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both states.

Medical Alert

Public health experts warned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after historical occurrences where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
